Gina joined Merton Chamber of Commerce in order to meet like-minded businesses, improve their local profile and get to know the “movers and shakers” in the business community. Gina has attended workshops such as health and safety and first aid, which Gina describes as “very useful”. Gina Conway Salon and Spa also took advantage of the Chamber’s Go Green Plus service, implement in their sustainability as well as save your business money. Gina commented, “Merton Chamber of Commerce has been like a friend in business who care about your business and want to help you succeed. They have been no end in helping us when we need them. They are a star resource”. Chang Thai
They have been members with Merton Chamber for a couple of years now and decided to join after Merton Chamber was recommended by their customers as helpful for businesses. Chang Thai joined for two reasons. Firstly to start networking and use its network of contacts and secondly, to get advice, support and practical help. And that they did. Since joining, Chang Thai have used Merton Chambers service though MCC Business Solutions and have attended networking events and workshops. They have had a one to one meeting with a business adviser and have received help in advertising and events such as FoodFest. Owner, Sandy Rerksasut, said “Merton Chamber is a very open and friendly Chamber that has provided every kind of help and helped us to maintain and develop our restaurant in very tough times. I wish we'd discovered them sooner.” Heads Up For Hats
With a background of Insolvency Accountant and being a full-time Mum, Sarah knew she had a flair for making things. Looking for a new challenge she found a six-week part time Millinery course at Kensington and Chelsea College in Fulham. Sarah loved the course and had a natural talent for it. She ended up staying on the course for two years and then decided to start her own business. Shortly after starting the business she attended several free workshops. Sarah said, “Trying to start a home-based business has been quite an isolating experience, having been previously used to working in busy offices. Merton Chamber and MCC Business Solutions workshops and networking events have provided me with positive feedback and encouragement so that I have felt able to enter awards/competitions. So far I have been a semi-finalist in the Hat Designer of the Year competition 2009 and a finalist in the Merton Business Awards for Customer Service in 2010.”
